From 15 to 18 October, SingleTree partner Creative Optimization is representing the project at INTERFORST, the forestry technology and equipment trade fair.
SingleTree aims to advance precision forestry through a clear vision: bucking planned for every single tree. By combining AI, remote sensing and intelligent machines, the project is developing approaches that connect forest data with decisions along the wood value chain, from the forest to the sawmill.
From individual trees to optimised wood supply
Creative Optimization is contributing to this transition through three areas of work:
- Value-maximising bucking: Generating individual bucking instructions for each tree using tree data, harvester sensors and market prices, rather than applying a single instruction to an entire forest stand.
- Optimised wood supply: Simulating the value of individual trees to allocate forest stands to the most suitable sawmills and match supply with demand for specific log diameters and lengths.
- Value gains: Published bucking studies report value increases of at least 3–9%.
These innovations are being tested in the SingleTree Living Lab involving SCA forests and sawmills in north-central Sweden.
Meet SingleTree at INTERFORST
Visitors to INTERFORST can connect with the Creative Optimization team and pick up the project’s flyer to learn more about its five-step optimisation process.
The approach reflects SingleTree’s focus on making better use of tree-level information to support decisions throughout the forest value chain: right log, right mill, right value.
